If miracles have color,it must be chinese red.
Never ever has there been such a crazy country developing so fast. No one can do this, except China.
I will give you some statistics to show what a great progress we have made since the reforming and opening up policy.

This is the comparison between China mainland and Taiwan from 1990 to 2015.and the first column is GDP of Taiwan, the second is that of China mainland. In the 1990s, Taiwan is far more developed than Mainland, and the percentage is 44%, with only about 2% population. But in 2015, It has been totally reduced to a normal province, ranking only 6th if considered as a normal province. It just takes 25 years.

This is the comparison of electric energy production between America and China. The first column is that of America. In 1975 America is 10 times as much as China, and until 2003 China is still half of America. But things totally changed until 2010,from then on China has been still increasing rapidly and America has already been saturated for many years.

This also comparison between China and America. The first one is about top global 500 companies, and the second one is about the total income of these top companies. The column in orange is China. This is the most direct way to show you how crazy China is. In 2015 Beijing overtook Tokyo to be the city with the most top 500 headquarters. Although we still have not overtaken America, It is just a matter of time.
China has been praised as the monster of infrastructure. Our city construction is far beyond your imagination.

This is Shenzhen, the fourth biggest city in China, with a population of 12 million, has the largest number of skyscrapers(2017).You cannot even tell the difference between it and HongKong,Chicago or Seoul. But what I really want to tell you is, it is still a small fishing village in the 1980s,with few people and no high building. It just takes 30 years to be an international metropolis with over 100 buildings higher than 200 meters. The total GDP of Shenzhen has overtaken HongKong Singapore, even close to the whole GDP of Denmark, within 30 years.
The rise of China is not accidental,it is fated. In 2010 China just surpassed Japan and 6 years later GDP of Japan is less than half of China. with the vast size and efficient people, with the increasing influence and comprehensive national strength, the China generation is just around corner.

If China’s economic, military, and geopolitical influence continues to rise at this pace during the next few decades, the world will witness the largest shift in the global distribution of power since the rise of the United States in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. And, if China in the next 10 to 15 years surpasses the United States as the world’s largest economy, it will mark the first time in centuries that the world’s economic leader will be non-English speaking, non-Western, and nondemocratic. Chinese are more focus in economy unlike US which is more concerned politically , China has maintained favorable view with most of the countries except few ones.
I personally think China’s rise to power would bring more economic growth all around the world as we see that currently they are investing in countries through one road and belt project in South Asia , Africa and Central America.

China’s rise with Xi Jinping continuing to direct her growth will make the world more China centric. Her ‘Belt Road Initiative’ will reshape the global economy and make China a force to be reckon with. The only fly in the ointment is the U.S.. America surrounds China with military forces and perceives China as an enemy and threat. What will America do? America, under the Trump administration has turned inward and no longer pursues globalization and leadership of the free world. America has pulled out of the Paris Accord and is threatening to cancel trade agreements with other countries of the America’s (NAFTA), and no longer has the confidence of alliances like NATO. China’s continuing 5 year plan will mechanize China’s dream to become a dominant power she was before the Century of Humiliation. President Xi will be remembered in Chinese history as the ‘Great Navigator’ of China. China is setting a new example of world leadership and peaceful rise that the world can emulate and follow.

I believe that the rise of China is a very dangerous historical phenomenon; it would be otherwise if China wasn’t what it is now. I think a lot of people in the West are not really aware of what is happening; everyone is so fascinated by the rapid development of the PRC and the financial opportunities the Chinese enormous market is able to provide, that other aspects, in my view much more important, remain unheeded. For instance, recently the Chinese communist party banned foreign textbooks at universities – some of my Chinese friends are not allowed to use foreign textbooks when writing their papers in undergraduate programs. The one-party rule is affecting more and more aspects of individual life (the so-called “Social Credit System” whereby people obtain points by behaving the way the Party wants them to behave is to be implemented by 2020); virtually the only application people use to communicate, WeChat (weixin), is able to control and follow your messages, your money, your location, your plane tickets, websites you browse, and will even send you warnings if you say something politically inappropriate.
When at the 19th national congress I heard Xi Jinping repeat again and again how great (weida) Socialism with Chinese characteristics is, how important it is to continue the struggle (douzheng) and solve the conflicts (maodun), it brought to mind the Maoist times to which the current political atmosphere in China is getting closer by the day. The radical nationalism in China is much more worrying then the one seen in America, because it is based on the artificially inflated feeling of humiliation which resembles the last years of the Weimar republic.
Of course one could say that this is the way the Chinese have decided to govern their country and we shouldn’t interfere. However, the fact is that China is now exerting so much influence on the world that the freedom of the Chinese (or its lack) to a huge degree determines the freedom of people in other countries. Besides, according to the official propaganda, China is going to become a “model” to be followed by the countries disillusioned with western democracies.
I might sound pessimistic, but I really believe that dark times are approaching.

It’s nothing short of amazing. Every time I go to Shanghai, they’ve built a new subway line! I don’t think people realize how poor China was just a generation or so ago.
I would of course like to see improvements, such as in the education realm and of course the “good world citizen” realm, though I have to admit there aren’t many role models for the latter.

Personnaly speaking,I have seen the big rise by my own eyes, because I witnessed the big change of our lives. It seems crazy and amazing. When I was a little girl,I lived in a traditional poor countryside,we didn't have too much food to eat, people lived in the low one-storey bungalow,we worried about the harvest of the farm, worried the tuition fee.But now ,all of these things changed, people no more live together in a small house ,as they have the money to build their own houses.A big number of people move to city to earn more money. We don't worry about the tuition ,as the government offer the grant to us.Farmers get some help too ,from a lot of policy. It seems so quick.
However, every coin has too sides, the quick rise also brought some problems. The development is so hurry that something the government ignored.Just like the environment protecting and the old architecture protecting, even some inner culture.Everyone cares about making money for a better life, but we seem not very happy.
We made a big progress under the quick rise, but we still need try to develop in a better direction.

China rise is inevitable. It will be like tidal waves sweeping into our world of equilibrium. Like huge stone dropping into a lake of calm water.
Even though, China love to use the word win-win. That is not realistic. There is bound to have win and lose. Rich and poor. Demands and expectations of humans are like a bottomless pit. The smaller countries will suffer where they need to appease not one but two. And if not careful, it may be a war between two giants. In history, china never share power with the rest of the world. In history, they either conquer Or ignore them as barbarian.
Well… in the end, it is all about adjusting human expectation and desires.
Try asking the people in the west to work as.hard as the chinese to maintain their standard of living
Try asking people in china to allow taiwanese choose their own path like how the west does to have peace

Inevitable.
But ominous.
If China were to adopt social and political reforms, adhering to the highest ideals of human rights, individual liberty, judicial and political systems of real integrity and transparency, thereby addressing their endemic corruption, and showed themselves to truly respect other nations sovereignty, then I would view China’s rise as a benign and positive evolution in a geo-strategic affairs, and an improvement over the current status quo.
But they aren't.
They are repeating the same self-serving, blind nationalistic bullying tactics, techniques and strategy practiced by the existing and preceding great powers, but without the veneer of democracy , individual liberty or somewhat(?) accountable power.
So, when looking at history, and of the numerous times when a rising power seeks to supplant the existing power, and it ends in conflict, combined with the scarcity of world leaders of high quality and strategic vision, well,
I am worried about the future.

Look at it this way.
China used to be really poor. According to a Chinese scholar in the 1940s during the republican era, something like 64% of the population lived below the poverty line. China still had a pretty big population proportional to the rest of the world.
Now, China still has a lot of poor people, but according to a website called NationMaster (first search result), it’s only about 13%.
So, if China is lifting lots of people out of poverty, that is a good thing. People’s lives are better. So, China can rise all it wants in my books, as long as nobody else has to implement Chinese restrictions on things if they don’t want to, and as far as I can tell, China seems pretty disinterested in pushing socialism with Chinese characteristics.

In the view of the vast majority of Chinese people, China is just restoring its previous glories in history. We have a continuous history of over 4000 years. We were the central kingdom. We were the center of the universe.
That’s why the Chinese government makes long term plans, like eradicating poverty in 2020, developing to be a medium developed country in 2050. Such plans were made in the 1980s, when China was still poor and very underdeveloped. We are not in any hurry. We just try to write our own history for the next 4000 years to come.
It’s not that Chinese people are ambitious. It’s just we miss our glorious history so so much. We are born to be at the top of the mountain. But we are not. We work hard just to regain our glories. We admire the achivements our ancestors have made. We are trying to achive something to make our desendants proud, too.
That’s why I am actually concerned about our American friends. America has a very short history. Empires come and go. Only a few can stand in history. American people think their glory is granted. But it’s not. America is lucky. Early American people worked hard to build their country. But such spirit is fading quickly. You have to be bottom down to appreciate your current status. I really hope America can learn from history. But the only one thing we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history, eh?

I don’t think the rise of China is a condition for the fall of the U.S. The fall of the U.S., if it happens, will be ‘self inflicted.’ Our extreme obsession with the rise of other nations that are not ‘like us’, caused us to have over 200 conflicts over our 240 history as a nation. Today we have over 700 military outposts around the world as the policeman of the world. If you were China, might you not be a bit concerned? Our annual military expenditures equals about half of the total of all military expenditures of all the countries of our planet. China’s rise has been focused primarily on domestic growth through trade and internal industrial maturity and strength. They have a goal to be a ‘middle class’ nation by 2050. They have a plan to do so. So, where are we? Do we have a plan? No! Today, we are polarized by our political parties, our enterprise progress as a nation have evaporated. Our President leads by causing crisis after crisis. Our economic direction favors the rich and powerful. Our society is being torn apart by religious and ethnic division. Our stature in the world is crumbling. Is this a plan for success? I say it is a plan for self destruction. Our moral and spiritual compass is broken.

Honestly, China didn’t go through what the United States had during WWII where pretty much the whole world was in a chaos of war. Mainland America wasn’t engaged in any large-scale war at that time and so basically it grew at the expense of others suffers (not that they caused it, but they did have an advantage that China does not enjoy nor does it want to enjoy.)

America (and India) weren’t devastated like Europe or East Asia, but a high relative share is no prize. The goal is peace and prosperity for everyone, and everyone would have been better off without the world wars.
America reluctantly shouldered the cost and effort of saving the world from first imperialism and fascism then communism. We’ve now reached a mostly peaceful world and hopefully it will stay that way.
Europe firmly turned away from centuries of rivalry and war and formed the European unx. Asia should similarly terminate remaining conflicts and form a firm alliance for peace. Then America’s mission is completed.

It depends on whether the innovation of the future will create enough markets and demands which is big enough for China and America.
Right now, your statement seems to have a point. But actually it isn’t true. It is many bad apple factors within America itself made it rot, not due to China. For example: drugs. no real discussion of core society problems, culture decline.
But the best of America is because exploration, innovation, industrious. Key word is the best. Many best Americans will keep on putting the time into learning to build up fundamental knowledge, and do hard researching in labs, or trying to found some new innovative business and industries. These people which includes many Asian Americans is actually the backbone of this country. Not the people who you see doing rap or doing drugs or on TV making political jokes, even though you don’t see the best Americans on TV.
Also, if you go to small town America, there are many people who doesn’t have a college degree and are very handy. They keep on making stuff creatively to improve whatever they do. No matter it is agriculture of family shop, family kitchen. They do everything diligently and creatively. This is a very important factor if you add it up. It is another great factor of American culture. But you can’t see this on TV.
Innovation in science and technology, new industries is the thing lift the whole world from poor and miserable lives.
If China can’t do some serious innovation in not only technology but fundamental science. Then your statement won’t happen.
The #1 country in any history period was almost all flourished in art, culture ( i man good art, good culture), philosophy, thoughts, science, technology.

The rise of China isn’t going to make the US poorer, especially since so much production designed for US consumption is already being produced in China. What is happening is a realization that the US isn’t as powerful as it portrays itself, but that realization is a product not of China’s actions but of failed US military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq.

America’s fall is her own doing. In fact, I believe the current shift in power is mostly due to American incompetence rather than Chinese brilliance.
Come on guys…your education system sucks. You spend so much and healthcare but you get so little out of it… Why are there so many tax cuts for the rich (I mean, I at least understand for tech companies…)? You seem to be going to war all around the globe and you can’t seem to fund it. Your people would rather complain about factory jobs than adapt to the new economy…

At times in history some nations had higher economic growth rate than USA but quite unable to catch up. USA always evolved their economy by letting the Market place choose the winners. USA economy was and is very mobile finding new ways to prosper and be leaders of the world. Their back bones were set right after the Civil War when Land Grant universities allowed each state to have two Universities. Northern states had better curriculum and world class professors. Northern state universities win all the Nobel Prizes and lead the world in that category. The South is intellectually deprived. No nation will catch up with USA because of the wide mix of nationalities that live in USA creating an advanced gene pool. The culture allows a healthy and wide mix of ethnic groups in schools and universities.

No country will stand forever. I believe America is falling whereas China is rising.

I think there're some superb answers here. I just cannot improve upon them. So I'll confine myself to a related aspect of this question.
No, China’s rise is not America’s fall. Nonetheless, there's a sense in which China’s rise is the world’s gain.
When the US became the sole Super Power, a lot of us heaved a sigh of relief, believing that the world is at last headed towards an era of greater peace and goodwill amongst nations, imperceptibly led by a wise and unobtrusive leadership role reluctantly assumed by the American people as an historic trust of the humankind and life on Earth.
However, since that time the world has become less secure, largely because the American people have been duped into supporting some of those forces that seek to benefit themselves at the cost of the rest of the world, and indeed at the cost of the mass of the American people.
If the above supposition is not wildly untrue, then there is case for wishing that there emerge in the world order other foci of economic and military strength, reasonably strong but not excessively strong, that may operate to constrain the cowboy spirit of the US might, without necessarily causing global tensions.
I know, I know, it's a pipe dream; but since the question came up in my Quora feed, I decided to add my ha’penny’s worth.
