China puts new J-20 stealth fighter into combat service in bid to narrow military gap with America

China has put into combat service its new generation J-20 stealth fighter, a warplane it hopes will narrow the military gap with the U.S.

People's Liberation Army Air Force spokesman Shen Jinke said the J-20 deployment would 'help the air force better shoulder the sacred mission of safeguarding national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity'.

Shen was quoted by the South China Morning Post as saying the air force was moving towards a modernised military service that could operate in all fronts, and had become an effective force to control, contain and win a war.

The J0-20 is now reported to be 'operationally ready' after it officially entered military service in September and subsequently undergoing extensive drills.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is overseeing a sweeping modernisation of his country's armed forces, the largest in the world, including anti-satellite missiles and advanced submarines, seeking to project power far from its shores.

In a short statement, the air force said the J-20 had been commissioned into combat units.
The J-20 will further raise the air force's combat abilities and help the air force better carry out its 'sacred mission' to defend the country's sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, the air force said.

The J-22 was shown in public for the first time in late 2016 at the Zhuhai airshow and was first glimpsed by Chinese planespotters in 2010.

However, questions remain whether the new Chinese fighter can match the radar-evading properties of the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor air-to-air combat jet.

Likewise there is doubt as to how it competes against the latest strike jet in the U.S. arsenal, Lockheed's F-35. The F-22, developed for the U.S. Air Force, is the J-20's closest lookalike.

Stolen technology. The entire world knows it.

Barry0, Central, Kenya
Technology sold to them by the Clinton crime family.

IronRuby, Eel Pie Island, United Kingdom
Putin sold them the engines!

Kingslea, Charlottesville
Hackers. I live in China and hacking is all they know

Jon Burrows, Manchester, United Kingdom
They have basically ripped off a very flawed american jet and an even more flawed Russian one. You can imagine what piece of junk this is then.

LedZep, Virginia, United States
No worries .... under the right wing it says ¿Made in China¿ ....

chathambing, Amherst, United States
Just like a cheap Chinese knockoff. Looks about 90% right, performs about 10% as well. Yawn.

Notting Hill Snob, London
strange how China can make a supersonic fighter jet but their cars are so backward and poorly made.

adbsaxon, Lutterworth, United Kingdom
Same could be said of the UK in the 60's. My experience of Chinese engineers is wholly positive, however it's likely I only met the cream. Do not underestimate them.

Marjorie Majors, Chipping Norton, United Kingdom
Stolen technology or not, China doesn't get wrapped up in red tape and consultation that benefits only lawyers, politicians and lobbyists. They just get on with it. That's why they are going to be the biggest global force. You snooze, you lose.

TheWise1, Salford
Strange how China's new tech always looks like America's existing tech, anyone would think China is famous for copying everything, oh wait a minute

Ozark, Missouri, United States
Russia and China copy everything. No stand out innovation of their own. They can't even build decent autos or keep an elevator working right.

simo5, The Eden, Switzerland
China is becoming too strong and nobody know what they want to do. First the islands and this is enough to start a new war, then what? And they dont care to follow the rules. If we continue to buy there, we could regret it. This could be our biggest mistake from the IIWW. .

Bachy, Melbourne, Australia
China is quite adept at copying Western advances. But that's the main point. They've got no capacity for innovation, they can only copy. They might close the gap a bit but they'll never be in front.

shawzy, darlington, United Kingdom
chinese are pretty good at industrial espionage

monsta, earth, United Kingdom
if its made in china, itll be about 2 weeks before it doesnt work anymore

Sean, Illinois
Everything they make breaks.

thewartornhippy, Cincinnati, United States
Using stolen American technology to compete with America. What a time we live in.

Peter99, London
Rival the US aircraft. I don¿t think so.

Lineking37, Brisbane, Australia
Will never be as half as good the F-22 raptor stealth fighter, or the fourth generation of F/A-18 or F-15 and that¿s what make American Air Force dominate the sky , also the training for the us pilots the best in the world

Mr.Firth, East York, Canada
Gap with US ? more like a Gulf . .
