It’s well known that South Korean seniors force their juniors to drink alkoholic drinks especially in hoesik (회식). This is very inhumane and one of what I hate the most about South Korea.

For example, as North Korea doesn’t allow private property, South Koreans often get too obsessed with it that it sometimes lead to severe social problems.
South Koreans often look down on Japanese and Chinese over the nationalism. They admit something in Japan or China which is from Korea, but they don’t want to admit vice versa. Some of them (want to) believe especially Japan had been grown or taught from Korea in almost every area.
This severe nationalism often bears xenophobia and racism.
But it’s not easy to remove it because it’s getting worse as the economy of South Korea is collapsing. The harder people’s economy gets, the more they become on the right politically.

Think about your son entered the military for his obligation and died from a military accident, and they excuse again and again… You may definetely get to want to escape from the country forever.
There are many people who migrated into other countries because of the currupt South Korea. Migration from South Korea is increasing even now. Many of them don’t want to come back to South Korea that some of them don’t want to even travel in South Korea.

Everything I mention below are based on my experience, something that can be improved in the years to come— and it doesn’t change the fact that there are plenty of great things about Korea that I still love and continue to learn more about. Heirarchy - The importance of age. Some Koreans care about it so much, immediately they ask me to call them ‘Oppa’ (surprisingly, I’ve never been forced by a girl to call her ‘Unnie’). Racial Discrimination - I’m a Filipino, and I speak fluent English with an American accent. I have been mistaken for an American or people get surprised by my English skills . I’ve also been asked casually “Do Filipinos have guns?” and “Why are there so many murders in the Philippines?” as if it was not a stereotypical question that insists my country and people are dangerous human beings. Harassment on the street (as a woman) - I thought I’d never experience this. I thought it was just something I hear from other people or in the news. Who knew that I would experience this myself? At 10pm, walking back to my guesthouse to Sookmyung Women’s University, I was walking alone and a man was standing on the same street. I didn’t mind him and kept walking. I noticed, he started following me. He was asking for my attention “Agasshi… Agasshi…” (“Miss… Miss…”) and I had earphones on but I could hear him. I was the only other person on the street. The only uniquely Korean problem I can think of is the obsession with physical beauty. Of course I don’t mind being surrounded by absolute stunners all the time, but once you see how intense the bullying is and how they treat “ugly” people, you’ll feel sick to your stomach. It affects everything. Your career, you salary… all just based on your looks. Pretty f’d up.Seoul also has this “shit smell” phenomenon. Every now and then you walk by a sewer and some foul stench will waft its way into your nostrils. But this is a minor problem. I don’t like the exclusion of other people who are strangers or foreign. Koreans tend to stick together in cliques wherever they are. Marrying outside of their race is uncommon. Their attitude to other Asian countries is very xenophobic. These are some of the things I don’t like. I think the biggest problem is their hypocrisy.
