China’s “Childlike Face” Beauty Trend

@str4berryyy
if Chinese beauty standards means looking like a child, then this just got a lot darker

@keagaming9837
Both western and Chinese beauty standards are just absolutely terrible.

@Wartensteiin
What are you on about. Universally, people like very youthful females

@MisssilenceDogood1
But not to mimic CHILDREN'S FACES! Come one don't be weird.

@Liliana_k9
@MisssilenceDogood1 I don’t think they actually wants to look like children. I mean have you seen Asian kids look like that?
They just wanted a young youthful face because it’s prettier than a old, wrinkled face

@lululand311
@keagaming9837 exactly it’s not just Asian beauty standards. In western beauty standards: usually a high nose bridge, small nose, big eyes, good jawline, and big breasts, no fat on stomach and anywhere except butt. Asian beauty standards are small face, round faces, small high bridge nose, round eyes with agosal and double eyelid, pointy chin, very thin.
As you can see, not everyone qualifies into this beauty standard including me. Who has too tan of a skin for Asia and not enough of a high bridged nose for the western beauty standard.

@duskdweeb1368
Bro tweens and teens look and act like adults in the west, that's even more concerning.

@jybrokenhearted
The whiter The better

@str4berryyy
@jybrokenhearted racist much?

@jybrokenhearted
@iloveslime. Not at all. Most Chinese people think women with white milky skin are attractive. They can be rather exclusionary about it. Darker completions of is attributed to workers who spend a lot of time outside during physical labor. When Westerners first started to travel to the Far East, they noted how many people had such pale and white skin. Koreans and Japanese people also have pale Visage. Throughout all the Dynasties of China, pale ivory skinned women were prized for their beauty. Don't put your racist prejudices on to me.

@iloveslime.

@muffinz1005
@Wartensteiin There's a big difference between looking like a little girl and looking GROWN. We as adults are supposed to be attracted to other adults that look healthy. This is for better chances at successful reproduction, for one.

@kaylaj666
Youthful not child. Majority of Asians will look young naturally and western people look older, naturally. Both sides have complete different views.

@vanessaland5090
It's about wanting to look youthful because it's about aspiring to be healthy, not necessarily childlike. Being too childlike is actually not revered in China because it means you're immature.

“you have a beautiful daughter”

@sunnykay.
i can’t tell which one is worse

@XxPrettiestGirlxX
Nah I’m from the US and I’m not trying to look like her. The only thing I want that she has is her clear skin and money

@TheBestCat1290
Ikr?? And people act like American beauty standards are good and Asian ones are bad as if America isn't worse

@shinuai
honestly i’m in uk and try a lot to look like the asian standards unfortunately the asian standards reaches out to all the other country’s from social media making a lot more people willing to do this

@lana_354
@sunnykay.
Both standards r toxic
But tbh Chinese celebrities r way prettier than American celebrities (in my own artistic view)
Bcz they r look very natural, doll like and just ultra feminine (my opinion)
But I don't support undergoing surgeries to archive any of those toxic standards
@sunnykay.

@dreamxx

初恋 describes one's first love / puppy love. Chinese beauty standards are geared towards the fresh, cute, innocent / pure, youthful girl-next-door / boy-next-door look reminiscient of one's first love / crush typically during their teenage years and is NOT about being child like. Besides, this beauty standard is also common in South Korea and Japan. "Aegyosal" (under eye fat) as mentioned in the video is a South Korean term.

@lornam1142
Still pandering to people who like underage girls.

@dreamxx
@lornam1142 Many asians look way younger than their actual age. I'm 27 but still get mistaken for being 18. Just because some people have a certain aesthetic standard doesn't automatically make them a pedophile

@lornam1142
@dreamxx I look very young for my age too. My point is more about the society as a whole and not an individual. In China, women who aren’t married by 25 are considered leftovers. The age of consent is 14. The fetishization of girls has real world consequences and affects how women of all ages are treated.

@dreamxx
@lornam1142 I do agree that fetishization is a big problem and can encourage sexual predation on young girls. That said, it's not fair to generalize and assume the worst of people that have certain aesthetic preferences (and I say that as a woman myself). Isn't the real issue the fact that people have a tendency to oversexualize everything which makes it impossible to have any kind of discussion about beauty / aesthetic standards without it eventually leading to this particular topic?

@lornam1142
@dreamxx These kinds of beauty standards are lixed to that. So many beauty standards are meant to make women look super young and submissive. They want women to look like teenagers because teenagers are more malleable . There’s a reason this standard doesn’t exist for men. Having a preference for doll-like or youthful faces is similar but not creepy like preferring a child-like face.

@harsh3948
@lornam1142 lol this is how I know you have an agenda. This standard absolutely applies for men as well in their culture

@lornam1142
@harsh3948 Yes I have an agenda. I don’t think it’s okay to fetishizes looking and acting like a child. While I’m sure it happens, in general, men are not expected to be like children, especially in China. It’s a male-dominated society.

@dreamxx
@lornam1142 All beauty standards comes with its own set of controversies. When girls try to look more mature, they're being sexualised by the media as well... isn't that ironic? Besides, as I've mentioned in my initial comment, this aesthetic is about having a fresh-faced youthful look, not "childlike". In Western societies, many women try to appear youthful as they age, by going for botox treatments / face lifting treatments. Is that creepy as well?

@lornam1142
@dreamxx How about just don’t sexualize kids? Regardless of if they look mature or not.

@everyonesaidmynamewasstupi3713
@lornam1142 who is sexualizing kids? nobody is sexualizing kids. you’re the one who’s trying to draw lines about what sort of traits in ADULTS are and are not acceptable to prefer.

@lornam1142
@everyonesaidmynamewasstupi3713 If you like traits that are uniquely associated with children, that’s creepy. Especially if you are much older.

@everyonesaidmynamewasstupi3713
@lornam1142 they are not “uniquely associated with children” if they appear in adults.

@lornam1142
@everyonesaidmynamewasstupi3713 Keyword: associate. It’s fine to find an individual adult with child-like traits attractive. My problem is when the appearance like a child is an overall preference.

@everyonesaidmynamewasstupi3713
@lornam1142 an appearance like a child according to who? the fact is that the attraction is to an adult, not a child. is it wrong to be attracted to people with two legs because children also typically have two legs? the only reason anyone has a problem with this is the translated word “childlike,” it’s nothing but semantics and the nature of translation between languages. someone having a rounder face does not, in any way, make them less mature or less capable of consenting to a relationship than a person with any other sort of face.
@everyonesaidmynamewasstupi3713

@workwithai
@lornam1142 Hate to break it to you, but majority of the world goes not sexualize kids anywhere close to as much as US. In China innocence is prized. Not angry, worn out, jaded 13 year olds of US. They focus of joy and beauty of light life. You should travel more.

@Muckb
“Child like” is insane bro

@j.c.00
I think a better word would be youthful (childlike is not a good translation of the Chinese word)

@catinabox3048
Guys, youthful and innocent does NOT equate to looking like a child. What is aimed for is an attractiveness that focuses on a lively and youthful beauty rather than on "sexy." The whole point is not to look like a child. The point is to look like you don't have the wrinkles and darkness that come with age and hard labor, and to come off as someone who is cheerful, optimistic, and not too sexually open. Most Chinese people don't find an appearance that gives off sexual openness to be attractive. Western aesthetics tend to come off as way too sexual.

@farewellsss
The name for this is literally “childlike face” and all of these traits such as ‘pure’ are one of a small child. Westerners are trying to look older/more mature while Asians are trying to look doll-like.

@linstarflight7344
Ok as a Chinese I need to say that the "childlike face" doesn't actually mean they want to look like a 13 year old but more of 18 or 17, just kinda youthful, not a baby face bruh

@auraluna7679
The pictures and behaviours say something different...

@leefster1
@auraluna7679 East Asian 17-18 yo naturally looks like that

@wendyduncan9084
I think you are right. It’s an attraction to innocence instead of the throw lady parts in your face we see here in the US. Our culture cannot comprehend an innocent attraction over an extremely sexual one. It makes me sad for people to impose that filter on your culture. I’m so sorry.

@jjkrunge1737
as if that makes things better?

@everyonesaidmynamewasstupi3713
@jjkrunge1737 it does make things better. over-analyzing this stuff from an ethnocentric point of view is really pointless and flawed. think about the fact that people call their significant other “baby” for example. imagine if that wasn’t something you were already accustomed to, you were an alien to the culture and somebody tried to explain it to you. it would seem insane and barbaric. but it really isn’t. and it only seems that way when you look at it and over analyze it from an alien point of view.
we have plenty of our own cultural problems, it really rubs me the wrong way when people would rather point at someone else’s culture and talk about how they don’t approve of it. bottom line is, these are all adults. there’s nothing inherently wrong here. you can think it’s weird, and they probably think it’s weird that we like adults with shaved public hair in our culture.

@angelmagickcosplay4162
I didn't know that! But I do absolutely love seeing the historical hanfu from China. Its so pretty

@PixieElixir
As a Chinese, I’m telling you that is not Chinese beauty standard that I grew up with. Don’t generalize Chinese beauty standard by some sick online beauty trends. Chinese doesn’t just have one beauty standard. Why don’t you look at the more mainstream beauty standard of Chinese women? Mature, graceful, confident and independent.

@LH62579
Keep in mind that asians tend to look younger than other races, so their concept of a youthful woman looks like a grown woman to them. But to westerners, it looks like children

@angelfromheaven777
It’s creepy how features of young people and babies are the beauty standards

@user-rx9lq1hp5x
bro says americans whos beauty standards is freaking kim kardashian.

@crykookies7872
@user-rx9lq1hp5x I prefer the beauty standard resembling an adult like Kim K than a 5 year old child.

@hyukleberry5567
@crykookies7872 except these women do not resemble children at all despite having so called youthful features, and maybe you'd be able to tell the difference between a grown Chinese woman and a Chinese child if you were less ignorant

@xinovo
Instead of referring to it as a childlike face, it refers to more of a cute and youthful look. I think Chinese people just prefer a cute and non-intimidating look. That is why they like the short/round face shape, big eyes and delicate features.

@akiragrey8777
OMG! Most of asian girls are already naturally beautiful with child like faces. No need to go extreme.
