What do foreigners like the most about Indians?

Why do foreigners love India?
I travelled India for 4 months and then lived in it for 3 months. As others have remarked the food is a good reason, but my bet, as someone who didn’t like India, is on the tolerance towards other religions and faiths.
Indians are not tolerants among themselves (cast, region, skin color) but are exceddingly good at keeping out of other’s faith and act independent of it. Also, most of them tended to stay for long in the north of the country.

Why do so many foreigners like India and think India is good?
Because they haven't been brainwashed by propagandist media.
They are more open minded and accepting.
They have access to real information, truth and facts.
Most of them aren't communists.
They understand the actual meaning of being good and doing good. They have experienced the same in India.
They are unbiased and believe what they see with their own eyes and personal experience.
They like the Indian philosophy and notion of the word, which is a sharp contrast to communist ideologies.
They know how to empathize and feel for others.
In short, foreigners who like India and think India is good are themselves good people.

well, when you step on this red land, you start to wonder how old it is and how long it’s keeping it’s secrets :)
Food is incredibly tasty, people live with the idea of karma - what you give is what you get, animals are holly :) and nature ..nature is like motherland. Most of the people go there to search for themself and the important things in life.. India is huge and offers a lot of styles and micro cultures. I love India and every time i go there i feel like i got back home after a 1000 of years :) !!!

Not all the foreigners love India. I am an Indian and living abroad since many years and in between my foreigner friends who traveled India they wanted to go there just because India is different world for them They loved it or they hated it there. Some wants to go again because of it’s culture, hospitality, inexpensive and great food, different landscapes, religions and beliefs etc. Actually for them India is a big country with many different countries inside. South and North are completely different. Others those hated it there and never want to go back again they were not happy with many other things like less cleanliness, overpopulated places, hot weather etc but again I would say its all about one’s vision.

India is home to many of our scientific discoveries and is as the Europeans once referred to “the cradle of civilisation”. India is also perhaps the most culturally diverse place on the planet. It is the home of many religions and the root of many languages.
Whatever one says of India and supports with a wide body of evidence can just as easily be dislodged with an equal if not greater body of evidence to support.
What’s baffling and intriguing about India is that it is difficult to stay in the place, travel through it with all its discomforts and inconveniences and not come out the better for it. It is also difficult to not find something of ones own culture, religions, philosophical beliefs floating somewhere in India’s past or rooted in its vast and multi dimensional state.
India will never be China or Europe or the USA although a growing middle class sometimes shows signs of wanting to be like all of these countries and economies. This is because deeply rooted in the Indian psyche and spirit is that longing for and desire to maintain that freedom they have always enjoyed which credit cards, tall skyscrapers, fast imported cars and big banquets cannot be substituted for. All these other nations have traded the more valuable inheritances such as their freedoms and their philosophies and spirituality and human qualities for the superficial goods of their economic endevours.

India once was the richest country on this planet (and perhaps still is if people paid their taxes and banked their money instead of finding new ways to salt their wealth through black money schemes).
It was the subject of Winston Churchill’s man made famines that killed over 20 millions (they never asked to b compensated for what was in fact a GENOCIDE). They were invaded, enslaved and butchered by the Moghuls, by their own despots.
They were ravaged by famines, floods, tempests, earthquakes, invaders and colonials, seen wars not of their making and still have the capacity to renew themselves, be generous to others in need (one of the larger donour nations) share their technology, produce some of the finest doctors, engineers, scientists educators, academics, intellectuals and industrialists the world has ever seen.
When you leave India you always leave the place tired but never unhappy. Not even after the Sikh taxi wallah in Delhi rips you off for $200 leaving you locked in a public toilet saying he is going to get the balance of your money and to lock you up is for your own safety.
In the end, we will all in some ways adopt the Indian way of life (traditional) in order to rescue ourselves from the destruction consumerism (now trying to conquer India) has reeked the world over.

It depends , people have different opinions and views about India and everything else in life but since you are asking I would say , that maybe because of some TV shows or documentaries most of people who have never visited India before - have kind of a bad impression of the country and might consider it unhygienic and poor !
As I have mentioned in my previous answers , I was in love with India since childhood and loved reading about it’s culture , history , traditions .People back in my country never really understood or took it serious , they used to tell me with an attitude : ‘’ You’ll grow up and realize it’s stupid ’’ or ‘’Once you visit India , you’ll see how poor it is and rush back home ’’ ! When I first time visited India , while landing I saw Delhi lights and - I CRIED ! I do not know what it was , but my heart has never felt so much excitement and happiness at the same time , never before ! I have no idea how but it was just what i had pictured in my head ! Of course I felt bad for people who live in the streets , I saw some places which freaked me out and I could not stand the strong , terrible smell but I once more fell in love with India ! We should always concentrate on positive points and India is so much of that !

When I go back to my country , some silly people still ask if I have a washroom or not ,got a bed or i sleep on the floor - yes it’s so annoying and disrespectful but I do not wanna argue with someone , who has no idea about what’s actually going on here and is still so confident just because she/he has seen a scene over TV how poor India is !
I try to use my social media handles to show India from my point of view - which is incredible ! Textiles , architecture , festivals , food - I love all about the country !
I could go and live anywhere I wanted to but India has a power i guess which attracts you and there is no between - either you love it passionately or not at all!

As I also work with students , who want to go abroad for studies , I really like to talk to them and prepare as people from India travelling abroad represent their country too ! You should try to look polished and groomed , clean your place - no matter it’s hostel or flat , not to disturb neighbors - be friendly - maybe you offer them to try Indian dishes (less spicy) ! Talk about how rich India’s culture is and what achievements it has - but do not be pushy , keep it short !
I try my best to spread good message , India is not poor - if we look at the population of some countries it’s 3 million - they still have beggars , people who are uneducated , sleep in the streets , starving and here Delhi (just one city) population is 18 million - how is the world expecting it to be perfectly normal and super clean over here ?! If country with small population can not be taken care of and well maintained how are we expecting one of the most populated country to fulfill those requirements ?!

What do the foreigners think about India as a whole?
I’ve visited India twice, once on business (to give talks on influence techniques), once as a tourist. A few impressions:
Stimulus overload. India is an exhausting place to experience, but in the best sense. Sounds, sights, tastes, smells and sensations of all kinds come at you from all sides, relentlessly. This barrage is how India gets under your skin and makes itself unforgettable. At the end of my first visit I became obsessed with returning.
Much of what you see in India seems to be poorly finished, abandoned, badly maintained (this is especially shocking and sad in museums) or falling apart. Dirty too. You need to be careful as a pedestrian not to twist your ankle on uneven sidewalks or be injured by bits of metal or wood sticking out of walls.

Smiles. especially from curious children. People in India are generally warm and welcoming.
Trash. Locals in Bangalore explained to me that countless people make a living from picking up trash and recycling what they can. They even insisted that changing littering habits in India would cause more poverty.
Queues. Expect to be pushed, shoved and overtaken. This is the Indian way.
English. Not everyone speaks it. And why should they?
Admission fees. There’s often one price for you, the tourist, and one for locals. Your price can be easily and officially be ten times higher (but still cheap by European or North-American standards).
Opportunity. People try to make money—tips usually—out of anything in India. As you drive up to the entrance barrier of a parking lot or a toll booth, for instance, someone might step up and take your ticket out of the machine or from the attendant in order to hand it to you, hoping for a coin. I couldn’t decide if this was creativity, desperation or both.

Religion. It’s a delight to see so many faiths cohabiting peacefully. However, according to locals I spoke to, the cohabitation often stops short of condoning mixed-faith marriages.
Slow service in shops. One person welcomes you at the door. Another serves you. Another wraps your goods. Another takes your payment. In some shops, another person checks your bag as you leave. I sometimes wonder if Starbuck’s didn’t get inspired by Indian service. On the other hand, this system ensures that more people get a salary and I like that. Indeed India forces you to think again about how you define solidarity, despair, possibility, poverty, creativity, efficiency and effectiveness.
Taj Mahal. It’s so beautiful that I had tears in my eyes when I first saw it for real. Countless Indian tourists I saw there clearly thought the same. My emotion switched to anger, however, at the poverty I saw in the nearby town of Agra.
Don’t get me wrong. The above are simply what might surprise you as a visitor to India. I love this country and can’t wait to return.
Go for it, India.
