Very good historical footage. Well done. However, having traveled in China on a number of occasions, it's amazing how many of these places still exist today. One thing though, the AI seems to have gotten the skin tones of the people slightly wrong. It doesn't take away from the video at all, but I wonder could some filter have been applied to make it closer to reality.

@user-px9gv9tt5p

@berklia
@user-px9gv9tt5p You could be right except that the white people in the beginning of the film are white and the Chinese people standing next to the white people are dark brown.

Seen on the footage, Manchurian noble women & lower class Hans didn't bind their feet, notoriously known as lotus feet where they were broken on the side & bound tightly since they were 7 until the end of their lives.
This modernity-facing tradisional Chinese society might not realize that they would experience within 20 more years the world's eeriest, cruelest, most brutal & excruciating inhuman tortures done by the colonial domination of Japanese troops that Chinese people will never forget forever...

@user-px9gv9tt5p

@berklia
China was so beautiful! Thank you for sharing all the wonderful information regarding different phenotypes. I am African American and part Chinese - so I have brown skin and Chinese features - like most of the people in this film. It's fascinating to see clearly in this film that most Chinese people have actually very dark brown skin color - like Black Americans have different brown shades of skin. I knew this to be true, but seeing it on film just blows my mind - to know that today they must use lightening creams & stay out of the sun in fear that white and black people will discover how Chinese people actually look. Many White people can be very prejudice against any people with brown skin. I have a Chinese friend who looks like she has white skin, but she tells me that she is really brown skin. She never allows her skin to see the sun & she also uses umbrellas on sunny days. Now I know why many Chinese people today wear beach outfits that cover their entire body - including their faces.
I remember seeing most of the Chinese people in San Francisco Chinatown wearing these same outfits with the long braid during the 1960's and 1970's when I was young. Today, all of their descendents dress like white people and hide from the sun. Very interesting to learn the truth from this video.

The Chinese feudal system and Confucianism keeps China behind the West in the development of science and technology. I am Vietnamese I think I understand and sympathize Chinese very much better than the Western. I can learn science and technology from the western while I love to learn Chinese culture.

@mrhdebater1607
No quite correct. China had already discovered many innovative designs for war throughout its 5000 year history, but it had always wanted to be a peaceful nation. Europe on the other hand saw science and technology as a way to promote warfare onto each other and on the world, and colonialism was their export model to enforce and shape the world. The west would cripple China through its drug wars that took over a hundred years to recover, which itself was an incredible feat.
Geopolitics became inevitable, so China and the rest of the world had no choice but to engage with the west So now, China/Japan/Korea is developing technology and science faster than the west, which is collectively only being represented by the US (which happens to be the world's largest warmonger).

Imagine you have the ability to time travel.
Lets say to this particular time in the video.
You will blend in and nobody will know your real face but they will see and thinks youre a local.
You will be able to speak their language.
You will have some decent sum of money to experience stuff.
You are alone in this time trip.
Everything you see will be bizzare cause mostly now it doesnt exist anymore.
Peoples mindset would be so different that the conversation would carry on in different manner.
The stake is, you are not allowed to mention anything from the present times or knowingly attempting to alter the future and you will lose this ability.

@DancingShiva788
What an amazing experience that would be!

@Lion-fj3wp
Asian obsession with light skin when did it all started? I cannot recognize an Asian person anymore and it’s not only in china, South Korea it’s a shame, all wants to be “Caucasian “??

@taliavaryn4393
It's the reverse. The obsession for light skin was from China. Since Ancient Rome, art from China (mostly porcelain) depicted white skinned beauties. Chinese products as silk were the highest luxury. European nobles wanted to copy porcelain beauty.
By the way, even the creators of White Supremacy were in love of South-Est Asia.
in the 19th-20th Europe, tanned skin were see as prettier. British invented seaside resorts in 19th century. Beauty goes back to light skin because of Weebs and Gothics.

1917 India was cleaner than 1917 China. China was also under Japan rule in this time.
Compare China now to 1917 you’ll see .....

only Westerners in Europe and America would like a corrupt and backward China so that they can plunder and colonize with impunity, and yet today, 100 years later, they have to work with a powerful China as equals.The more the West opposes it, the more it shows that the Chinese people have made the right choice.

When foreigners see this video, they will understand how great the Chinese communist Party is

@ldubt4494
European here.mwe do see that the party brought a lot of progress and modernisation to China. On the other hand, we dont like that its the only competing party in china, there should be other options. Its called multi party democracy. And no i dont mean like in the USA with 2, but like in Europe where each Co try has 5 or more relevant parties. We see both sides, and do understand why Chinese agree with the current system but it won't work forever.

Rapid development cannot be achieved if a country has multiple heads with multiple visions.

@user-vy2fm9dh5e
@ldubt4494 Unfortunately, the multiple parties you mentioned have existed in China before. So far, there are eight parties other than the communist Party in China, but they have all failed in the competition.

@celite5091
@ldubt4494 Maybe in a company, your system is effective. But now, due to the openness and dissemination of public opinion media, healthy competition has turned into vicious attacks. Especially under Chinese culture, it may become purely internal friction.

@ldubt4494
@celite5091 I know that it may fit your circumstances. However i just wanted to explain how europeans see it, because now that China is becoming a superpower, we are wary to not be influenced by you because it would threaten our way of doing things.

@celite5091
@ldubt4494 Yes.I know, I know how you do things. But when I am in China, I feel that the Chinese government has no intention to threaten the internal affairs and behavior of other countries. However, global public opinion is monitoring the Chinese government, and there are even many false statements. Frankly speaking, if any country in the world learns from China's political system, it may cause big problems. China's current situation is caused by history. Europe also has European history. Human beings are pushed forward by history, and the role of individuals is minimal.

@berklia
@bruceparker6142 Yeah, I agree to disagree. I thought the way you thought before I traveled the world and lived and worked in different countries. I learned over the years that it is better to have a wide variety of extremely diverse viewpoints - especially in leadership roles = and then have those people vote to make decisions. This is why countries with this setup are the richest and have the most stable economies and personal happiness.

Imagine being a student at that University during this time to live through the warlord period, WW2 and the brutal treatment by the Japanese, and to live all the way until you are in your sixties when you get tied up, beaten in public, and paraded around wearing a dunce cap all because you were a science teacher.

@antirealist
Regarding skin tones: perhaps the coloration isn't perfect but we should also remember practically all peoples (save for perhaps a sext few like royalty, priests, srcibes, and administrators) used to be of darker skin tone (even white people) because they spent more, if not most, of their time outdoors. Skin tones of many peoples in the industrialized world are now lighter on average due to people spending more time indoors.
It should also be mentioned that for most of human history, most people did some sort of manual labor that caused dirt and other things to accumulate on their skin throughout the day which would stay there until washed away when they bathed — so that layer of dirt also makes people look a bit darker than they really are.
History is what we make it — reality is how things were. Knowing the difference is crucial yet sadly underrated.

@Astepatatimekvarn
They dont look like todays Chinese. They are darker. What happened??

@JeanGoodman1
The skin color of people can change over time due to a variety of factors including geographical location, environmental conditions, cultural practices, and migration. A hundred years ago, as well as in earlier times, the Chinese population exhibited a wide range of skin colors, from light to dark.
If you are referring to specific historical events or conditions that may have led to the Chinese appearing darker-skinned a hundred years ago, it could be related to various factors:
1. Working Conditions: Many Chinese people were engaged in agricultural or physically demanding occupations which exposed them to the sun. This could have resulted in darker skin tones, similar to people in other countries who spend a lot of time outdoors.
2. Genetics: Genetic diversity within the Chinese population led to variations in skin color. In some regions of China, people may have tended to have darker skin, while in other areas, skin color might have been lighter.
3. Diet and Lifestyle: Traditional Chinese diet and lifestyle could also have influenced skin color.
